Coming Right up in August, 2011 at the Center for the Performing Arts

The splendid new Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel, Indiana‘s recently-contrived Arts & Design District is the place to be this summer for enjoying the live performing arts in Greater Indianapolis.

This premier gathering spot for the upscale Carmel community blasted out of the gate at full speed this year, and is in the process of building up steam and vigor.

Below you’ll find a list of the memorable shows and things to do this August at Carmel‘s Center for the Performing Arts, comprised of the lovely new Palladium concert hall, The Studio Theater and the Tarkington Theater, officially opening on August 6, 2011. Kids Day at Tarkington Theater – Contrary to its name, Kids Day isn’t only for your children in Carmel and Greater Indianapolis, but for you, the parent, as well. Visit the Center for the Performing Arts’ newest venue for a sneak-peek and enjoy lots of fun activities planned for this special day.

Ribbon Cutting & Open House – Free for everyone, come celebrate the grandeur of the Tarkington and enjoy lots of live music, dancing and preview scenes from Hairspray, the musical.

Tarkington Opening Night – It’s a big, black-tie party in celebration of the curtain’s first rising at the Tarkington. The evening includes a red-carpet cocktail reception in the grand Palladium, live performances by Michael Feinstein and David Hyde Pierce and a “Post-Show Wrap Party” with food and dessert buffets and dancing to live music.

Hairspray – This fun Broadway musical deals with an overweight teen who wants to be a star. A perennial favorite the musical offers something for everybody to hum about all summer long.

Lyle Lovett & his Large Band – This beloved composer/singer has touched hearts across the generations with a long list of hits that put him squarely on the list of the greats in his field.

Tony Bennett – One of the wonders of the crooning universe, Tony Bennett woos his audience with his easy, silky-smooth voice and a spirit to match. This is your chance to hear the legend.

Martin Short – The Emmy Award-winning Saturday Night Live alumnus brings you his own unique brand of comedy this summer in Carmel.

Chely Wright – Live at The Studio Theater, this crossover Country singer-songwriter will open her heart to her audience this summer. This show coincides with Martin Short’s performance, and will demonstrate the viability of Carmel’s Center for the Performing Arts as a simultaneous, dual- and even triple-purpose performing arts venue in Greater Indianapolis.
