#CarmelIN – Carmel has been ranked as the third best place to live in the United States according to a recent post by Money magazine.
The bi-annual survey that ranks best places to live in the country ranked McKinney, Texas as the best place to live in the nation and Maple Grove, Minnesota ahead of Carmel at second place.
The survey took into account 781 cities in the United States with populations between 50,000 and 300,000 people. To determine the best places to live in the country factors such as schools, the local housing market and local economy are all considered when ranking cities.
In all, 50 contributing factors make up the criteria for comparing the 781 cities.
Taking note of Mayor Jim Brainard’s vision to turn Carmel into a place where people “didn’t have to drive to have a nice dinner or see a show.” That was something the mayor stated 20 years ago.
To see that vision come to fruition more performing arts were brought to the city and along with an aim to make the city more European-like by incorporating a more walk-able downtown and roundabouts. Carmel is home to more than 60 roundabouts, more than any other city in the United States according to the City of Carmel’s website.
Taking note of the cities’ Palladium, which hosts a myriad of performing acts, Carmel residents enjoy a plethora of activities to partake in which don’t require them to leave this North Side Indianapolis suburb. Recently Carmel’s annual International Arts Festival took place in Carmel’s Arts & Design District, its been a tradition in the city for the past 17 years.
Connecting with the globe through Sister Cities such as Kawachinagano, Japan and Xiangyang, China, Carmel itself is home to 85, 927 residents according to a 2013 census and steadily continues to grow. Carmel households average a $107,505 income with average home prices being $293,600 according to the City of Carmel.
Carmel is also home to 50 corporate headquarters.
This isn’t the first time that Carmel has been ranked as one of the best places to live in the nation.
In 2012, Carmel was ranked number one as the best city to live in the United States. Forbes ranked Carmel ninth as a city which is creating the most tech jobs in the nation. It also has been named best town in Indiana for young families by NerdWallet Finance.
