Carmel City Center is the name chosen for the section of Carmel, Indiana that is earmarked as the new downtown area of this Indianapolis suburb. Overseen by the Carmel Redevelopment Commission (CRC), an organization made up of city officials, including Mayor Jim Brainard, the new Carmel City Center is an ambitious project geared to generate interest for Carmel business and Carmel arts.
A work of art itself, the Carmel City Center will contain 230,000 square feet of downtown Carmel, housing stores and Carmel restaurants. The City Center will also house 170,000 square feet of office space, 300 apartments and penthouses, and an upscale, 102-room Carmel hotel. The Carmel City Center is being constructed on a 15-acre site between Range Line Road, City Center Drive, Third Avenue SW and Monon Green Boulevard, about twelve miles north of downtown Indianapolis.
Eventually, the Carmel City Center will offer a 500-seat multi-purpose theater, an outdoor amphitheater, and the Carmel Performing Arts Center, an Indianapolis theater that will be large enough to accommodate 1,600 audience members. On the short list of Carmel City Center crown jewels, the new Carmel Performing Arts Center is still in the process of receiving the finishing touches. When all is said and done, it is expected to have cost the city about $100 million.

The planned Carmel City Center development, along with its new next door neighbor, the Arts and Design District, comprise the new old town of Carmel. It is destined to become an extraordinary landmark in Central Indiana, and a Carmel attraction of choice for locals and visitors from Indy alike. The chosen motto for the Carmel City Center is: “The appeal of a neighborhood; the vibrancy of a downtown location.” The Carmel City Center is a promising addition to the list of Carmel things to do, and a must-see for anyone checking out Indianapolis and its environs.
