Carmel, Indiana, a prosperous and vibrant suburb of Indiana state capital Indianapolis, has long been known as one of the best places to raise children in the United States. This isn’t empty praise, however; the community of Carmel deserves every accolade its children earn. With the quality of Carmel schools and the sheer amount of fun things to do in Carmel, Carmel children have it pretty easy.
Foremost in most parents’ minds is education. Parents want schools where their children can develop into productive, free thinking, intelligent members of society. One of the reasons Carmel is experiencing a population explosion is the quality of its school system. Carmel Clay Schools run some of the best educational facilities in the Hoosier State, meaning students who graduate from these schools are likely to go on to do great things; many graduates attend big name Indiana colleges and universities.

Carmel High School is the main high school serving the citizens of Carmel and its surrounding environments, but there are more Carmel schools than just that. University High School is a high ranking private school whose specialized teaching methods allow its students to learn much more than simple facts and figures, while Options Charter High School picks up students who may have lost their scholastic way. Carmel children are the ones who benefit from the peerless Carmel education system.

Parents may be concerned about education, but Carmel children themselves just want to get out and play. Fortunately for them, there are tons of Carmel attractions and organizations that are focused on kids. Perhaps the most famous of these is the Children’s Art Gallery, run by the Carmel Arts Council. Housing works of art from children in the Carmel area, the Children’s Art Gallery has the distinction of being the smallest children’s art gallery according to the Guinness Book of World Records. It’s a great way to expose children to Carmel art and give them the experience of seeing their own artwork on display.
There are also a number of wildly fun activities in Carmel for children to enjoy. The Carmel parks system, for example, has tons of green spaces, playgrounds, and Carmel sports fields for kids to run around in. Central Park, the largest park in Carmel, has a skate park, an aquatics center complete with water slides, whirlpools, and a lazy river, wide open nature areas, and other cool amenities.
One of the chief activities centers for children in Carmel is the big Laser Flash facility right in town. And another unique, appropriately-sized attraction for kids in Carmel is the Museum of Miniature Houses.
Carmel is also connected to the Monon Trail and the Monon Greenway, two beautiful nature trails that are perfect options for a fun family bike ride. Carmel children who like to explore, run, and get messy will love the Carmel parks system.

Carmel children will also love the sheer number of cool Carmel events that have festivities just for them. Kids love a holiday, and Carmel’s got plenty of them, from exciting Indianapolis music festivals to celebrations of our country’s independence. CarmelFest is the town’s Fourth of July celebration, complete with a parade through downtown Carmel, a massive fireworks display, and a carnival filled with fun games and activities for kids. Rock the District, held in the Carmel Arts and Design District, is a great way to introduce kids to the wonders of popular music, while the Carmel International Arts Festival allows Carmel children to see works from local artists and get their faces painted. Living in Carmel gives Carmel children tons of opportunities to take the day off and be a kid.
