Conseco, Inc., originally called Security Life of Indiana, is an NYSE company comprised of almost 4,000 employees, situated in Carmel, Indiana, a suburb just north of Indianapolis. The Indianapolis business offers insurance, financial services and protection-related products to middle-income families and senior citizens. The company is no stranger to Indianapolis; Conseco Fieldhouse, home of the Indiana Pacers, is named after and sponsored by this Carmel business.
Three main branches make up the large Conseco, Inc. group: Bankers Life and Casualty, which handles mostly Medicare supplements, life insurance and long-term care insurance; the Conseco Insurance Group, which focuses on certain disease insurance policies and annuities; and Colonial Penn, which sells life insurance directly to its consumers.

The company has definitely experienced its ups and downs. One such period was during 2001, when the Conseco, Inc. stock crashed and the company was forced to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. As it stands now, however, the company has fought its way back up to a middle ranking on the Fortune 1000, and showed revenues in 2007 of $4.5 billion.
