Mangia! is located next to The Bike Shop and close to Merchant Square in beautiful Carmel, Indiana. A suburb just north of Indianapolis, Carmel is a rapidly-expanding, upscale community rife with interesting Carmel things to do and places to be. Carmel restaurants rival some of the many great Indianapolis restaurants, luring Indy residents to try their taste temptations with surprising frequency.
Mangia is a Carmel restaurant that lures its many fans from Indianapolis and other cities in Indiana as well, not just Carmel. It sports a bright, polished interior with crisp white linen on the tables and lots of art on the walls.
Mangia Italian Restaurant has received many well-deserved awards, including Best Ethnic Restaurant from Carmel Magazine in 2006 and a WIBC Business Excellence Award, also in 2006. Competing with some world-class heavyweight restaurant chains, such as Abuelo’s Mexican Food Embassy and the posh Kona Grill, Mangia still holds its own easily and has plenty of fans. Along with their authentic northern Italian menu, Mangia offers a lovely private room for Carmel events that seats up to 50 with a customized menu and custom bar package to suit your needs precisely.
Some of the Italian favorite appetizers on the menu at Mangia’s are the Baked Portobello al Forno, a melty Torta de Caprino with goat cheese, the Calamari and the fresh Mussels, served in a spicy broth.
There are four intriguing salads on the menu, along with two different soups and a cheese Tortellini in homemade chicken broth. There is a delicious Tuscan bread and a mixed assortment of Italian meats, cheeses and vegetables. The Gamberi alla Griglia is not to be missed, a grilled marinated shrimp which has been wrapped in proscuitto ham and served on mixed greens.
The long list of pastas will take you a while to read through, but it will be worth it. Try the Penne alla Vodka for something different, or the Spaghetti with shrimp and pepperonicini for a taste of the Old Country. Mangia’s Lasagna Classica is also a favorite, and of course, the Lobster Ravioli, topped with shrimp in a rich bisque sauce.
Entrees at this Carmel business include the classics, such as the Mangia signature filet, an eight-ounce tenderloin with a red wine-tomato sauce and sliced Portobello mushrooms. The Scaloppine in Piccata has a wine sauce with lemon caper, and the Veal Scaloppine is topped with two cheeses and baked in a mouth-watering tomato sauce, just like Grandma used to make back in Italy.
There is a full Carmel bar at Mangia Italian Restaurant, with a nice, well-chosen wine list. This elegant dining establishment has been going strong in Carmel, Indiana since 1997 and is a family endeavor. Take yours there for lunch or dinner and get acquainted.
